The invasion of Iraq
On March 19th, 2003, The United States invaded Iraq and subsequently started a war that would last for years. After September 11th, 2001, The United States believed that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the national security of America. The justification for going into Iraq was that Iraq had weapons of Mass destruction and they had links to the terrorist group, Al Qaeda. These accusations later proved to be false and it was found that The United States was lead into a war under false pretenses. President George W. Bush along with seven top officials that included Condoleezza Rice and Dick Cheney made close to one thousand false statements about Iraq in order to manipulate the people to support the war.
Quotes by George W. Bush about Iraq
"The dictator of Iraq and his weapons of mass destruction are a threat to the security of free nations. He is a danger to his neighbors. He's a sponsor of terrorism. He's an obstacle to progress in the Middle East. For decades he has been the cruel, cruel oppressor of the Iraq people."
"The world will see that the United States is interested in peace, is interested in security and interested in freedom."
"He possesses weapons of terror. He provides funding and training and safe haven to terrorists -- terrorists who would willingly use weapons of mass destruction against America and other peace-loving countries. Saddam Hussein and his weapons are a direct threat to this country, to our people, and to all free people."

George W. Bush's speech on the Iraq war
Saddam Hussein was a dictator in a country that is not always stable but the justification that the United States used to go into Iraq did not make sense. President Bush lied about Iraq containing weapons of mass destruction as a ruse to get the general population to support him. George Bush told the people that Iraq was an immediate threat to the national security of the country. When people heard this they instantly started to support the war effort for their own safety and protection. The lies told about Iraq are the perfect examples of the United States government doing anything they can to manipulate the people into the support of a war that would otherwise not be popular.
Interview of Lee H. Hamilton, a former Congressman, talking about the 935 lies that the government told us before the Iraq invasion.
